Waukegan Swedish Glee Club celebrates 100th anniversary
The Waukegan Swedish Glee Club is celebrating their 100th anniversary with events all year long. The year kicked off with a Spring Concert on May 15th at Trinity United Lutheran Church in Waukegan. Beside the choral numbers, special music was offered by their director Jeff DeLay and accompanist Ruth Porikos. In addition, there was an historical display of memorabilia, an exciting powerpoint production, and refreshments.
The chorus had a booth at the Annual Heritage Festival in Bowen Park, where they sold their new CD recording and a history book, written by Fred Fortney. They also used that opportunity to try to recruit new singers. The next day, many chorus members flew to Sweden to be part of the AUSS Sweden Tour.
The big extravaganza was on December 11 when the Glee Club had an extra special Julmiddag (Christmas dinner) at the Chevy Chase Country Club in Wheeling, IL. The two Chicago choruses were there to help in the celebration.
